It takes a village (as the saying goes) to guide dozens of homeless dogs and cats each month
into loving, responsible homes. Humane Society of Culpeper
volunteers devote their time in myriad ways, from a few hours a year to regular weekly commitments.
It's incredibly rewarding to witness the joy of both the animals and their new families as these
special bonds begin to form. Besides that, our volunteers are dedicated, passionate, and fun, so
you're sure to meet some great (human) friends along the way.
Volunteers take available dogs to adoption events
at area pet stores.
We take adoptable dogs and cats to local pet stores periodically. This accounts for the majority of our adoptions and requires volunteers on the weekend. Volunteer for a few hours or a whole day! Adoption volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
The Humane Society of Culpeper tries to hold a number of major and minor events throughout the year that require plenty of planning and preparation. Your energy and creativity would be most welcome!
Whenever possible, the Humane Society of Culpeper places animals
that are sick, frightened, pregnant, or nursing in foster homes.
We also seek emergency placements for adoptable animals when the
county shelter is filled
to capacity. Could you open your heart and home to a needy dog or

In any given week, we may need to transport animals to and from local veterinarians for surgery or treatment, to pet stores for adoptions, to and from foster families, or to other rescue groups. If you have a few hours to share on a regular or occasional basis, this is a great way to help Culpeper's abandoned pets on their journey to a new life.
We assist county residents in sending their animals to a low-cost spay/neuter clinic. There is growing community interest in this service, and we could use more volunteers to answer inquiries, schedule appointments, and coordinate drop off/pick up.
If you have experience to share in grantwriting, please let us know! There are funds available to animal rescue groups if we just had some help doing the necessary research and paperwork.
Keeping our website up-to-date and answering email inquiries is an ever-expanding project that could benefit from some additional hands. This can be done from a home computer so would be ideal if you want to volunteer on your own schedule.
