Dear Pet Lovers & Friends,
The Humane Society of Culpeper is active, developing plans for future projects. We have an administrative office where calls are received from concerned county residents about many issues -help for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens that have been abandoned, assistance with spaying or neutering their owner pets and what to do about feral cat colonies,. Many people are still fearful of the thought of animals going to the county shelter - they are worried that the dog or cat will be euthanized without being given a chance to find a new home. There are so many issues that HSC is called on for assistance. Our office manager keeps the Board members and volunteers well informed about questions the community has. Visit dotty in the office to say hello, ask what you can do to help HSC to help the animals in our community.
Two important projects are spaying and neutering and feral cat colonies. Spaying and neutering is imperative to keep cats and dogs from having litters that keep having litters, that keep having litters...well, you get my point. There are a lot of cat colonies in our county and we plan to establish a trap-neuter-return- program that will humanely allow the cats to live their lives without reproducing. We will continue to assist pet owners to be able to get their companion animals spayed or neutered at an affordable price. Let's not forget rabies vaccinations, which are part of the spay/neuter process.
We need to provide humane education to the community to help end the suffering of some of our county's animals - particularly the dogs that live on chains and are isolated from humans and other animals.
We need a facility - DESPERATELY! - a place where there will be no suffering and no needless euthanasia; a place for some to heal and others to be given a chance to find the home of their dreams. Our facility would assure no one is hungry all the time, a place where animals can exercise, socialize and know that a human hand is a gentle, loving hand.
We need people involved on committees - especially for fundraising, grant writing and spay/neuter projects. Please come to our annual meeting - look for the date on our home page -. Download a volunteer form, indicate your interests, email or fax to us and dotty will contact you. Office phone is 540-727-7554; fax 540-727-7559. WE NEED YOU! Let's all get involved.
Sincerely,
Karen Flynn
President, HSC
